Avoiding Marketplace Bans

No checklist can guarantee that a marketplace account will avoid a restriction. The useful approach is to keep account information accurate, follow the platform's rules and retain records that explain your transactions.

Complete the account requirements

Provide accurate identity, contact and payment information. Complete any verification the marketplace requests through its official website or app. Secure the account with a unique password and two-factor authentication where available.

Check your selling limits before ordering more stock. Do not assume that browsing for several weeks or creating unrelated activity makes an account safe from enforcement.

List products accurately

Describe the item's real condition, brand and contents. Keep source records for goods you buy to resell. Follow category restrictions and intellectual property rules. eBay's counterfeit policy requires genuine items; changing wording or hiding a logo does not resolve an authenticity problem.

Review every draft before publication, including AI-generated copy. A tool cannot verify an item's authenticity, condition or right to use a photograph for you.

Keep orders manageable

List quantities you can fulfill. Use realistic handling times, upload accurate tracking and answer buyer questions through the marketplace. If you discover a stock or delivery problem, use its order-resolution process promptly and keep the records.

Use official integrations and check the permissions they request. Remove access you no longer need. Avoid services that promise fake engagement, hidden account activity or a way around enforcement.

Handle a restriction through the platform

Open the notice in your marketplace account, read the reason and follow the stated steps. Gather the requested invoices, transaction records or identity documents and submit them through the official process. Keep the explanation factual and consistent with the evidence.

Do not create replacement identities or accounts to bypass a restriction. Resolve the original issue with the marketplace. For eBay-specific steps, read its account restrictions and suspensions guidance.
